Let’s face it, as a business owner; you have more than enough aspects of your business to worry about such as employee qualifications, production and sales revenue. The last thing you’ll want to become stressed out about is workers’ compensation insurance. Just like any other insurance, the premiums are usually high, and any business owner can tell you that they rarely have to use it – but the cost of not having it and needing it – is worth paying the monthly premium just to ensure you are covered at all times. Believe it or not, this type of insurance becomes more vital depending on your industry and job location. For some business owners, looking for workers’ comp insurance in Newark can be a bigger stress factor than a root canal procedure! But it doesn’t have to be – if you have experts on your side! Gathering the proper and accurate information about workers’ comp can make or break the ease of the process. There are key pieces of information you should be looking for and make sure that you are well versed in. For example, remaining aware of the current work related accident rate for your industry is vital when looking for workers’ comp insurance.

The higher the rate of reported work related accidents that are noted in your industry – your premium may be higher than the same position in another industry. By knowing facts and statistics such as these, you may have a bit higher leverage to negotiate premiums and other fees related to workers’ comp insurance. Stay up to date on current events in your industry as well. Having this type of current information may give you some insight as to future increases (or decreases for that matter) in your workers comp insurance as well as keep you abreast on what safety measures you should be implementing to ensure that you never need to actually use your Newark workers’ comp insurance! Just because you have the insurance does not mean you’ll want to use it freely! Again, like any other type of insurance, the more you use it, the higher your monthly premium can become! It’s somewhat like a catch 22 because after paying so much money every month to cover yourself in a “what if” situation, you’ll most likely want to need the insurance just not to feel like you’ve wasted money. Shake that thought out of your head because once you need to use the insurance, you’ll be spending more money every month to support the same “what if” factors! Now that would be a complete waste of money when it comes to workers comp insurance!

It’s that time of year again, and you’re probably wondering whether or not you should hire an accountant to do your tax return, or if you should brave another year of doing it by yourself. Don’t debate about it any longer, though, because the easy choice is hiring a trained professional to file your Newark NY tax return on your behalf. The reasons why are numerous, but here are just a few:

	Less Stress. Why put yourself through yet another round of tax preparations. Save yourself the time and stress involved and hire an accountant. They take the worry and hassle out of dealing with an abundance of figures, lines on forms, and ever changing guidelines, so that you don’t have to add one more thing to your already long to-do list.

	More Money. Chances are, hiring an accountant will probably get you even more of a refund than if you were to prepare your own taxes. They know the ins and outs of credits and deductions that you can claim, therefore, you’re bound to owe less or get more back if you entrust the prep to a true professional.

	Avoid Mistakes. Accountants are highly knowledgeable in their field, especially those at Nichols Financial Services, who specialize in Newark NY tax return issues. Thus, they are less prone to make mistakes, and will correct them without a problem if they do. If you get audited, they will also be there to help you through that process, making the ordeal more bearable. Plus, they’re great sources for advice throughout the entire year, should you decided that you might need to file an amendment.

	Makes taxes less complicated. If you have multiple sources of income, or own property, then taxes can be a bit more intimidating than usual, and definitely not as straightforward. Thus, hiring an accountant who knows the forms necessary and can help you to find out which paperwork is needed is a big time and stress saver.

If filing a Newark NY tax return, the best alternative is to contact Nichols Financial Services to get you through the often complicated task of preparing your taxes. There’s no need to put yourself through all of the trouble that’s involved with taxes, due to the fact that they can complete them for you affordably, and with a customer service philosophy that can’t be beat. With over 20 years of experience, they have the know-how and required skills to get the job done right and quickly.

With tax season heading into full swing, many sole proprietors, businesses, and employed individuals are wondering who should do their taxes. For some, the answer may be simple. For others, the answer is a little more complex.

With tax season heading into full swing, many sole proprietors, businesses, and employed individuals are wondering who should do their taxes. For some, the answer may be simple. For others, the answer is a little more complex. While only you can decide for certain which tax filing option is best for you and your needs, there are some factors that can help steer you in the right direction.

Do You Have an EZ File Form or 1040?
If you worked for an employer and have been or will be sent an EZ 1040, you can probably file your taxes online for free. There are many free filing resources online and they often ask enough questions to ensure that you get your maximum refund. As long as you don’t have any itemized deductions or a lot of complex issues with your taxes, then free filing is the quickest, cheapest, and easiest way to go.

Do You Have a Small Business?

Small business tax issues are more complex than filing a simple EZ 1040 form. You may still be able to file your taxes on your own, but you may not qualify for free filing. Additionally, you run the risk of missing important deductions when preparing your small business taxes yourself. However, if your business is fairly new or rather straightforward, you may be able to successfully file your taxes on your own.

Hiring an Accountant

If you have employees, complex deductions, or have had a lot of life changes over the last tax year, you should seriously consider hiring an accountant to file your taxes. While it can be a bit of an expense, the cost of hiring an accountant is much less than the expense you may incur for incorrectly filing your taxes. Additionally, an accountant can represent you during an IRS audit, which can and does happen to individuals, sole proprietors, small businesses, and corporations alike.

Individuals, business owners, and students alike find themselves at a financial crossroad at one time or another. Whether you’re about to invest in more education, grow your business, or switch careers, life changes and future investments can make a difference in your spending, and most notably, in your budget. Maybe you’re experiencing one of these transitional periods or you’ve found yourself buried underneath a mountain of debt. Whatever your situation, it might be time to enlist some outside help if you want to get your finances in order or back on track.

Here are 5 signs it might be time to get an accountant:

1.	You’re relying on credit regularly. Relying on credit for everyday spending or for paying monthly bills means you’re probably spending a lot more than you actually make per month. This will not only dig you into a deeper hole of debt, but it also has the potential to ruin your credit if you’re making late payments or are unable to make them at all.

2.	You’ve fallen behind on your bills. If you’re struggling month after month just to keep up, an accountant can help assess your numbers and see how much more you need to be making, how much you should be spending each month, and can help you see what you need to do to get back on track.

3.	You’re growing your business. An accountant can help you with taxes, budgeting expenses, and much more. If you’re expanding, it’s time to hire a professional to help you manage your finances.

4.	You are planning on making an investment. Whether you’re saving for a trip abroad or you’d like to put together a solid retirement plan, an accountant can help you plan for the future.

5.	You’re living check to check. If you’re living from paycheck to paycheck, haven’t been saving, and are having a hard time keeping up with your bills, it’s probably time to get help from a professional accountant. They will help you put a budget in place and help you prepare for the future at the same time.

After the New Year holiday, many people begin looking at the possibility of hiring an accountant to help them with their finances. Not only is tax season imminent, but the idea of starting fresh and getting your finances in order makes the idea of hiring an accountant very appealing. However, many people associate accountants with tax assistance and are unaware of the other services they can offer. If you’re considering hiring an accountant, your tax filing process will definitely become a lot easier from here on out, but you will also benefit in other ways.

Here are some examples of what your accountant can help you with aside from your tax preparation needs:

Budget help—This is one of the biggest benefits of working with an accountant, and one of the most common, helpful services an accountant can offer you. Organizing a budget that is tailored to your needs is an accountant’s specialty. They are not only known for crunching numbers, but also for the ability to figure out how to get those numbers to work for you in the best way possible, with your best interest in mind.

Future planning—Another area an accountant will come in handy is with your future financial planning. Aside from budget planning, an accountant can help you decide where you should make investments or how to properly prepare a savings plan for the future. Whether you have a large investment you’d like to make down the road or need help planning for retirement, an accountant can help you do all of this and more.

With tax season emerging, now is the perfect time to consider enlisting help from an accountant. However, don’t forget that they can also help you with these other great services!

As the end of the year approaches, it’s only natural to start taking financial inventory. Where do you spend the most? Where can you cut back? How can you save more money in the following year? All of these questions and more come to mind when you begin cleaning financial house. But there are some common budget busters that often get in the way of your financial planning, whether those plans consist of saving or paying down debt.

So which budget busters are threats to your financial state? And what can you do about them? We have some tips for you right here:

•	Look at your monthly numbers. One of the most obvious budget busters is spending more than you make in a month. If you look at your monthly income and you are putting out more than you’re bringing in, your budget is already destined for failure. Make sure you have a budget in place to keep from spending more than you can afford on monthly bills and entertainment expenses.

•	Talk to your accountant. If you’re having trouble because you’re living beyond your means or you just can’t seem to get away from the paycheck-to-paycheck lifestyle, talking to a professional accountant is a surefire way to avoid budget busters and keep your finances on track.

•	Don’t become a slave to credit. This is another common financial burden that often dips into your budget and hurts your finances. If you’re relying too much on credit, chances are you’ll have a tough—if not impossible—task paying off debts or saving for the future. Typically, if you can’t pay off a credit card purchase within a month, that purchase will likely come back to bite you and hurt your budget.

Something about the New Year really puts a fire under everyone’s tail when it comes to making changes. Whether it’s losing weight, changing your diet, or saving more money, everyone wants to stick to a New Year’s resolution and make positive changes when January rolls around.

If you’re unhappy with your current financial situation or you’d like to clean house and put together a new saving and spending plan, here are some tips for starting fresh with your finances in 2012:

Take inventory. This is the first step in cleaning financial house. As unpleasant or as overwhelming as it might be, it’s essential to sit down and face your debt head on. Write down every single balance you owe, including car and school loans, credit cards, etc. Also determine your monthly income versus how much you’re spending each month. This can show you how far in the “red” you are and where you need to be to actually live within your means.

Prioritize. Once you see where you’re at financially, the next step is to figure out where and how you can cut back. This is done by prioritizing and recognizing real needs versus wants. Whether you live alone or are a part of a large household, it’s important to lay all of your cards on the table and learn where and when to compromise if you want to make successful changes.

Call in some help. No matter how good you are at keeping track of your financial records or the kind of software you own, if you find yourself falling behind in the financial department, you’ll need some help. Even if you’re not in very deep financial trouble, you can effectively change your financial future for the greater good with some help from a professional accountant. They can help you set a new budget, determine your spending trends, and much more.

Whether you have a budget in place or you attempt to create one but can’t seem to stick to it, an accountant can help you get a budget together and suggest spending limits and number goals to help keep you on track financially. However, when all is said and done, you are the one spending your money at the end of the day, and no matter how good of a budget you have, it doesn’t count for anything if you are unable to stick to it.

Many people have difficulty sticking to a budget for a variety of reasons, but the following spending habits are often bad news for your wallet no matter what. Avoid these spending habits if you want your carefully planned budget to see the light of another day!

1.	Spending more than you make. This is an obvious one, but sadly, especially as times are tight for everyone, it can be all too easy to fall into the trap of living beyond your means. Spending more than you make in a given month is a guaranteed way to kill your budget. Try prioritizing and do financial inventory again to assess what your needs are versus what your wants are to get back on track.

2.	Spending before you have it. This is another tough one. We live in age of credit lines and loans at our disposal, making it even easier to spend more than we make and to spend it when we don’t even have it. By spending your future paychecks on expenses that you’re not even sure you’ll be able to afford when rent rolls around, you are digging yourself a financial hole that will become more and more difficult to get out of as time goes on.

3.	Tacking it on the credit card. This falls in line with spending before you have it to spend, but it is even more dangerous because it can become a nasty habit that will eventually catch up with you. Building credit is healthy, but reserve your credit lines for emergencies or controlled spending, where you are positive you can pay off your debt within one month’s time.
